Klaus Rath is the Danish designer responsible for the Morsø Forno, a versatile outdoor oven that merges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design principles. His inspiration for the project came from firsthand experience using a traditional Italian pizza oven while on vacation. This encounter led to the creation of a product that not only excels at making pizzas but also functions as a grill and a fireplace, expanding its utility beyond a single-purpose cooking appliance.
The design of the Forno is rooted in the geometry and construction techniques of classic stone ovens. It features a circular stone platform, a low curved ceiling, a small chimney, and a front opening, all combined into an orb-like form that enhances heat retention and distribution. The oven is constructed from enameled cast iron and ceramic tiles, materials chosen for their weather resistance, thermal mass, and durability in outdoor environments. This balance between traditional oven principles and modern material engineering makes the Forno both an aesthetic and functional centerpiece for outdoor cooking.1
